National Volunteer Week

Happy National Volunteer Week to all of our amazing Phi Sigma Kappa Volunteers!

We asked our volunteers a couple of questions. Here are their responses:

Why do you volunteer with Phi Sigma Kappa?

  • Phi Sig is a huge part of who I am, I want to pay it forward
  • To give back. Phi Sig impacted the trajectory of my career in many ways as I lived a life of faith and purpose.
  • A sense of “repaying” the multiple benefits I received as an undergraduate member and the fraternal aspect of interacting with Brothers beyond my chapter.
  • To provide the incredible fraternity experience I had when I was a college student.
  • I volunteer for Phi Sigma Kappa to help maximize the fraternal experience of our undergraduate brothers. A positive fraternal experience is essential toward the long term success of our fraternity and toward active alumni engagement as volunteers post graduation.

What has been the most memorable or rewarding experience you’ve had while volunteering?

  • All the laughs along the way while trying to do some good work to help our brothers
  • Currently 7 past Chapter Presidents, that I mentored are active volunteers. That is sustainability.
  • I’ve been fortunate to have been part of numerous re-charterings and colonizations. There is a personal satisfaction in seeing a new group of young men strive towards chartering status from their hard work, meeting their goals, and being initiated as new Brothers. This includes having my dad initiated as part of working with an Eta Chapter re-chartering.
  • To see that my chapter continues to provide a great experience for college men.
  • My most memorable volunteer experience was to serve on the faculty of the Robert M. Zilgitt Leadership Institute. This cohort-style experience is a unique member experience, helps to promote personal developmental growth of both the participating brothers and the faculty members. There is an obvious pride associated with being a graduate of the leadership institute.
