Chapter Raises Funds for Clery Center

The Chapter at Lehigh University held their inaugural Blue Light Ball and raised more than $10,000 for the Clery Center!

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – On April 5, 2018, the Phi Sigma Kappa Lehigh Chapter held their inaugural Blue Light Ball and raised more than $10,000 for the Clery Center in support of sexual assault awareness, promoting healthy relationships, and to further both campus and public safety.

Jeanne Clery was 19 years old when she was raped and murdered in her college dormitory at Lehigh University. Her parents, Connie and Howard Clery, could not have known the danger she was in; standards for campus crime reporting simply did not exist in 1986. The Clery Act was signed in 1990 as a consumer protection law that aims to provide transparency around campus crime policy and statistics. The creation of the blue light system which is used as a safety measure on college campuses around the country is one step that is taken to provide a safer environment. Clery was a close friend of the brothers of Phi Sigma Kappa Lehigh in 1986, and they hold her memory and the advancement of sexual assault awareness and prevention in high regard.
